XFBS Player Rating Caps

XFBS player ratings are based on the PNFL minimum and maximums to ensure our players will work with the PNFL play pool; however, we kept out unique split of rookie QBs into mobile QB (mQB) and pocket passers (pQB), rookie WRs into deep-threat flankers (fWR) and possession slot receivers (sWR), rookie LBs into outisde linebackers (oLB) and inside/middle linebackers (iLB), and rookie Safeties into free safeties (fS) and strong safeties (sS). This allows coaches to emphasize offensive/defensive types that work best for these players. For example, a coach seeking to implement a west coast offense may find mQBs and sWRs appealing. A coach that prefers 3 DL defenses may find iLBs and fSs appealing for their defenses.

A majority of the recruits will fall within the ratings displayed for their position as shown below; however, our league also makes 'blue chip' players available during recruitment who are at the high end of actuals/potentials for their position. These players are the 'men amongst boys' who generally will become (p)NFL rookies much quicker than other recruits. The 'blue chip' player is a key feature of this league that helps create a collegiate feel to the game.

This rating system was implemented beginning with the 2016 season. Previous seasons used a different ratings system. If you currently have 'blue chip' players on your roster that fall outside of these ratings, consider yourself lucky for now. By the 2020 season all players will be 100% within these ratings.

Mobile QB - High SP, AG, HA. Low AC, IN, EN.
Rookie Potentials
76-81 65-75 76-81 91-96 61-71 60-81 81-86 79-84
Rookie Actuals
60-75 55-64 60-75 70-90 50-60 50-59 69-80 65-78
Intelligent Pocket Passer QB - High AC, EN, IN. Low SP, AG, HA.
Rookie Potentials
60-75 76-81 60-75 91-96 50-60 82-87 87-92 79-84
Rookie Actuals
50-59 65-75 50-59 70-90 40-49 60-81 79-86 65-78
Rationale: Two kinds of QBs as noted above.   Actuals and Potentials  in ST, DI are the same for both so the other ratings determine the player type. Mobile are your Vicks/Favres and pocket passers are your Mannings/Flaccos.

Halfback (HB) SP AC AG ST HA EN IN DI
Min Actual/Max Potential
65/83 60/81 60/83 60/83 60/81 50/90 50/91 55/86
Rookie Potentials
78-83 76-81 78-83 73-83 71-81 85-90 86-91 76-86
Rookie Actuals
65-77 60-75 60-77 60-72 60-70 50-84 50-85 55-75
Rationale: Emphasize SP, AG (helps them make quick cuts to elude tacklers) to make them better runners than FBs. ST isn't as good as FB, but just enough to help them pass block, make more stiff arms and break more tackles. Deemphasized HA & DI so they aren't as good of a receiver as a TE or WR.

Fullfback (FB) SP AC AG ST HA EN IN DI
Min Actual/Max Potential
60/75 60/78 55/75 70/90 60/86 50/95 50/86 50/86
Rookie Potentials
70-75 73-78 70-75 85-90 76-86 90-95 81-86 76-86
Rookie Actuals
60-69 60-72 55-69 70-84 60-75 50-89 50-80 50-75
Rationale: Emphasize AC,ST to make them good blockers and interior power runners. Deemphasize SP, AG (limits them to inside running) so they aren't HBs. Higher HA than HB helps with blocking. More durable (EN) than HBs too.

Wide Receiver (WR) SP AC AG ST HA EN IN DI
Min Actual/Max Potential
70/84 70/86 70/91 45/66 70/96 50/91 55/96 55/96

Rookie Actuals
76-79 76-81 70-75 45-55 80-90 50-80 55-85 55-85
Slot Receivers - more agile (AG), and tougher (ST), run better routes (DI & IN), more EN
Rookie Potentials
76-79 76-81 86-91 61-66 86-91 86-91 91-96 91-96
Rookie Actuals
70-75 70-75 76-85 55-60 70-85 60-85 65-90 65-90
Rationale: Emphasize SP, AC, AG, and HA to make them receivers. Deemphasize SP to give more emphasis to AC and AG in determing which WRs are the best. Flankers are faster than slot receivers and are suited for vertical offenses; slot receivers are more agile, stronger and run better routes than flankers making them excellent possession receivers who can take hits inside.

Rationale: Emphasize SP, AC, AG to move quickly against the outside pass rush. High potential AG (easier to develop as pass blockers particularly effective against outside pass rushers). Higher AC than Gs as they are more expected to fire out & run/lead block.

Kicker (K) SP AC AG ST HA EN IN DI
Min Actual/Max Potential
30/55 50/71 40/61 80/99 35/56 40/90 90/99 90/99

Rationale: Emphasize AG, HA & DI and deemphasize ST to make them punters, not placekickers.

Defensive End (DE) SP AC AG ST HA EN IN DI
Min Actual/Max Potential
40/65 40/60 40/69 74/92 30/61 54/86 50/81 60/91
Rookie Potentials
60-65 55-60 49-69 82-92 51-61 81-86 76-81 81-91
Rookie Actuals
40-59 40-54 40-48 74-81 30-50 54-80 50-75 60-80
Rationale: Emphasize SP and AC to make them good exterior defenders and pass rushers, but deemphasize AG. Their SP is not as good as a S or LB and widely variant AG gives most of them less of an advantage inside compared to DT.

Defensive Tackle (DT) SP AC AG ST HA EN IN DI
Min Actual/Max Potential
35/60 35/55 40/64 75/97 30/56 54/89 50/86 60/91

Rationale: Emphasize AG, ST, HA to make them good interior defenders

Linebacker (LB) SP AC AG ST HA EN IN DI
Min Actual/Max Potential
55/76 55/76 55/81 65/83 55/91 53/89 55/96 50/96
Inside Linebackers (ILB) -  Higher SP, AG, IN, HA; lower ST, AC, DI, EN.
Rookie Potentials
71-76 65-70 76-81 72-77 86-91 78-83 91-96 85-90
Rookie Actuals
60-70 55-64 65-75 65-71 65-85 53-77 65-90 50-84
Outside Linebackers (OLB) - Higher AC, ST, EN, DI; lower SP, AG, HA, IN
Rookie Potentials
65-70 71-76 70-75 78-83 80-85 84-89 85-90 91-96
Rookie Actuals
55-64 60-70 55-69 70-77 55-79 63-83 55-84 60-90
Rationale: Deemphasize SP and emphasize AC, AG (not as fast as safeties, but quicker than DL); emphasize ST (better tacklers than safeties); and emphasize IN (makes them great read players). ILBs are rated to have more versatility against the pass and to be able to get outside quickly; OLBs are rated to be run stoppers with less mobility

Cornerback (CB) SP AC AG ST HA EN IN DI
Min Actual/Max Potential
64/83 65/83 62/86 40/61 70/96 55/87 50/91 50/96
Rookie Potentials
78-83 78-83 81-86 51-61 91-96 82-87 86-91 91-96
Rookie Actuals
64-77 65-77 62-80 40-50 70-90 55-81 50-85 50-90
Rationale: Emphasize AG & HA to make them true coverage players. Their phenomenal AG is what sets them apart as man2man defenders. Severely deemphasized ST (makes them the worst tacklers on defense as they should be).

Safety (S) SP AC AG ST HA EN IN DI
Min Actual/Max Potential
60/80 70/81 60/83 45/66 70/93 55/91 50/96 50/99
Free Safeties (FS) - higher AG, HA and IN;  lower DI, AC, ST
Rookie Potentials
75-80 74-77 78-83 55-60 88-93 86-91 91-96 88-93
Rookie Actuals
70-74 70-73 70-77 45-54 80-87 55-85 60-90 50-87
Strong Safeties (SS) - higher AC, ST, and DI, lower IN, HA, AG
Rookie Potentials
69-74 78-81 72-77 61-66 82-87 86-91 85-90 94-99
Rookie Actuals
60-68 74-77 60-71 55-60 70-81 55-85 50-84 60-93
Rationale: Emphasize ST, HA, IN to make them hard hitters and read/zone defenders but limit their ability to cover WRs man2man by deemphasizing SP, AC & AG compared to CBs. High IN makes them decent read defenders. They have less ST than LBs, but are faster and just as smart. Free Safeties can read the offense and determine where the ball is going to be thrown and try to be there to help in defending. Strong Safeties are basically speedy versions of linebackers; they are better tacklers than FS and can be used more in run support and pass rushing.
